About the Report
Ever since the initiation of Hsin Kuang Steel (hereinafter referred to as "HKS" or "the Company") in 1967, HKS has not only insisted on the improvement of its product and service quality but also sought to attain continual progress in the areas of environmental protection and social practices. Starting from 2017, we began adopting the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards (GRI Standards) as a guideline for independent compilation and publishing of our Sustainability Report, and subsequently incorporated standards of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for iron and steel producers, as well as the framework of the Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), to disclose the values that HKS has created. We also published an English version report for better communication, and hope that this Report will not only enable us to respond to internal and external stakeholders, but also serve as a tool that will encourage joint efforts in the creation of a society that is driven by cycles of virtue.
Reporting Guidelines
The Report is prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Standards 2021 (GRI Standards) and adopts the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework for disclosure. The Report is fully in compliance with “Rules Governing the Preparation and Filing of Sustainability Reports by TWSE Listed Companies” and “Sustainable Development Best Practice Principles for TWSE/TPEx Listed Companies”. Through the Report, HKS's sustainability practices and achievements are presented to all stakeholders.
Reporting Period and Scope
The content of the Report covers HKS's operating sites, brand and activities in Taiwan between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. Part of the content includes HKS's subsidiary, APEX Wind Power Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (APEX). If APEX is in the scope of disclosure, it will be specified separately. Financial data in the Report are prepared based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and are expressed in New Taiwan Dollars.
Management of Reporting
All information and statistics presented in the Report are checked and verified by supervisors of responsible departments before they are submitted to the Sustainability Report Preparation Team for compilation. The initial draft prepared by the Sustainability Report Preparation Team is reviewed and revised by responsible supervisors. Subsequently, the finalized Report is submitted to the Board of Directors for approval in line with administrative procedures. The Report will be issued upon approval by the Chairman.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team
HKS has established a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Team, with the General Manager appointed by the Chairman as the top executive responsible for making decisions related to sustainability. The Corporate Governance Officer is assigned to coordinate collaboration among relevant departments within the Company. Team members consist of department heads and key implementation staff, who work together to promote sustainability initiatives. To align with the preparation of the annual sustainability report, the team convenes at least two meetings each year to discuss and plan sustainability initiatives for the following year.
Since 2017, HKS has formally included sustainable development in the agenda of the Board of Directors. Sustainability implementation results for the current year and future work plans are regularly reported to the Board of Directors each year.
Third-party Verification/Assurance
To comply with GRI Standards and “Rules Governing the Preparation and Filing of Sustainability Reports by TWSE Listed Companies” and improve transparency in HKS's operations, HKS engaged Deloitte to perform limited assurance in accordance with the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000, Assurance Engagements Other than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information. A limited assurance is provided by Deloitte.
